Hejnice Basilica

Bazilika Hejnice

One of the oldest pilgrimage sites in Bohemia, at the foot of the Jizera Mountains: legend dates it to 1211, and the vast Baroque basilica was consecrated in 1725. A small 14th-century statue of the Virgin still stands on the high altar.

Good to know

A living place of pilgrimage: the grounds are usually open every day, but the church may close to sightseers during services. Dress modestly, keep your voice down, and expect crowds on the big feast days.

A rough guide to seasons and booking, not live opening hours – those are on the map listings above.
